About René Tort Llanos
René Tort Llanos, a dynamic leader from México City, has made significant strides in sustainable agriculture. After studying Industrial Engineering at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), René’s career began in the textile industry before venturing into renewable energy with his startup ORISUN (now Beetmann). His innovative work in photovoltaic projects earned him a prominent role at GRUPO IUSA, where he contributed to the development of large-scale energy solutions.
In his current role as Director General and CEO of Bionatur Invernaderos Biológicos de México, René leads one of Mexico’s foremost high-tech greenhouse operations. Under his leadership, Bionatur has continued its legacy of innovation and commitment to sustainability, becoming a trailblazer in hydroponic cultivation and environmentally responsible practices. René’s focus on transforming the company includes enhancing operational efficiencies and expanding Bionatur’s influence across Latin America.
Since its inception in 2002, Bionatur Invernaderos Biológicos de México has set the benchmark for sustainable agriculture in Mexico. As the nation’s first high-tech greenhouse facility, Bionatur specialises in the hydroponic cultivation of tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers, utilising advanced techniques to minimise environmental impact.
With a sprawling 837,000 square metres of growing space and the largest seeding facility in Latin America, Bionatur ensures top-notch quality and sustainability. The company is committed to reducing its water footprint by using rainwater collected from its greenhouses and has adopted chemical-free pest control methods to protect crop health and the surrounding ecosystem.
