About Sergio Barrero
Sergio Barrero is the International Commercial Director for Agroclimatica by Ingemann Data A/S, a cutting-edge tool for agroclimatic risk assessment. Agroclimatica utilises sophisticated AI-assisted climate modelling and advanced analytics to empower lenders in facilitating sustainable agricultural investments. Supported by major international funds and agencies, Agroclimatica enhances the development and resilience of smallholder farmers in vulnerable, underserved communities.
With over 20 years of experience in corporate and commercial banking, Sergio has dedicated the past decade to Fin/Ag Tech, focusing on identifying alternative data sets that increase SME access to financial products. Between 2021 and 2024, Sergio co-founded or advised five Fin/Ag Tech companies, leading teams in developing and launching digital financing and payment solutions that significantly improve operational efficiency within corporate value chains.
Prior to his ventures in fintech, Sergio was part of the Citi Inclusive Finance team, now Citi Social Finance, for eight years. He spearheaded efforts to establish closed-loop financing mechanisms for retailers in the traditional channel of FMCGs across Latin America. Sergio also played a key role in advising clients on innovative cashless collections solutions to enhance financial and operational efficiency.
Before his tenure at Citibank’s regional office in Miami, Sergio served as the Director of the Private Social Investment Group at Colombia’s National Agency for Extreme Poverty Overcoming (ANSPE) and as Portfolio Coordinator for the Opportunities for the Majority initiative at the Inter-American Development Bank. In these roles, he participated as an advisor and team member in over 70 corporate and project finance transactions across Latin America and the Caribbean.
