Juan Gilberto Limón Rugerio

  • Founder and CEO of City of Greens

Driven by a passion for agriculture and deep expertise in biotechnology, Juan holds a degree in Biotechnological Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey, with studies at Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea. The advanced agricultural technologies he encountered in Asia inspired him to bring these innovations to Latin America. His entrepreneurial journey began in the basement of his home, right after graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic – a time marked by global uncertainty. Facing the challenges of a health crisis, he set up a small lab with LED lights and a water system to grow greens like lettuce, chard, arugula, radish, basil, cilantro, parsley, and chives. This small-scale operation eventually led to the founding of City of Greens in 2020, driven by a vision to address climate challenges, focusing on food security and water scarcity. Under Juan’s leadership, the company has established strong partnerships with researchers from Tec de Monterrey and secured investments from national and regional companies. He continues to gain recognition as a leader in the field and is committed to supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs through public speaking and consulting.
