Sergio Barrero is the International Commercial Director for Agroclimatica by Ingemann Data A/S, an industry-leading tool for agroclimatic risk assessment, utilizing sophisticated AI-assisted climate modeling and advanced analytics to empower lenders in facilitating sustainable agricultural investments. Backed by major international funds and agencies, Agroclimatica enhances the development and resilience of smallholder farmers in vulnerable, underserved communities.
Over the past decade Sergio has focused on Fin/Ag Tech and identifying alternative data sets that increase SME access to financial products. Concurrently, Sergio is a Corporate and commercial banking professional with 20+ years of experience co-designing and deploying innovative financial solutions for corporate clients with a resolute focus on the digital economy. Between 2021 and 2024, Sergio co-founded or advised founders of five Fin/Ag Tech companies, leading teams in the development and successful launch of digital financing/payments solutions within corporate value chains; ones which significantly improve the operational efficiency. Prior to co-founding/advising fintechs, he was part of the f.k.a. Citi Inclusive Finance team, now Citi Social Finance for eight years, where spearheaded efforts to set up closed-loop financing mechanisms for retailers in the “traditional channel” of FMCGs across LatAm. The team also advised clients in the design and implementation of innovative cashless collections solutions with a clear mandate to enhance the financial and operational efficiency of corporate value chains. Before joining Citibank's regional office in Miami, Sergio was director of the Private Social Investment Group at Colombia's National Agency for Extreme Poverty Overcoming (ANSPE), and Portfolio Coordinator for the Opportunities for the Majority initiative at the Inter-American Development Bank, participating as advisor and/or team member in over 70 corporate and project finance transactions across LAC.
